Oh no, Swiss Chalet? What's happened to you? Now I'm a vegetarian and have been for about a dozen years but I still root for that great Canadian chicken place that is Swiss Chalet. KFC and Popeyes are the foreign fast food invaders and St-Hubert has long since retreated into Quebec so where are we supposed to take Grandma and Grandpa for a safe, affordable and tasty meal when we're in town to visit them? Hopefully not Swiss Chalet again, though Grandma is 95 so if she insists we won't argue but we sure won't look forward to it.
After being stuck in traffic for an extra hour on highway 401(rolled over tractor-trailer), we were pretty hungry and looking forward to our Sunday lunch. Almost anything would have tasted pretty good after a skimpy breakfast and a long drive but Swiss Chalet still didn't meet the lowered expectations.
Service was pretty slow to begin with despite the half-filled dining room (it took a while to even ask us if we wanted drinks) and although it picked up after that, it seemed as though that was only the case because they were serving us stuff that had been sitting there for a while. Grandpa never complains about his meal and Grandma is tough to read but I know that the fiancée and I were both very nonplussed. My veggie burger tasted sort of like a piece of bread in between a bun and no amount of cheese and fixin's could save it. The fries were mildly edible, a far cry from what I remember. My fiancée had the half-chicken dinner and couldn't believe how bland and flavourless the chicken was. I didn't use my "Chalet sauce" gravy (being a vegetarian, natch) so needless to say she used up two whole bowls in a futile attempt at giving her meal some zest. It failed miserably.
I didn't want to rip it apart and wanted to at least give them two stars out of pity but now that I've come to this point I don't think I can even do that. Our server was pretty friendly and was reasonably on the ball? The watery Mountain Dew refills were free? Grandpa seemed to enjoy the coffee? Grandma insisted on footing the bill (despite our protests) so we didn't have to pay for the meal? I'm giving it two stars but it really, really pains me to do so. I might go back and change my mind but for now, I'm being really generous. -

Place is going downhill fast!!!
After many visits to eat in the dining room and suffering through waitresses not knowing how to set the room temperature with the thermostat, to having terrible waitresses that act like we are between them and them going home, or just completely forgetting about us or some of our food that we ordered, we altered our plans since the meal itself has always been good to eat via take out.
Mistake.
While waiting for our food people that ordered behind us got their meals first in addition to have to wait around amongst their delivery drivers who act very anxious and not friendly towards the other people in the restaurant at all (in tonight's event one tall unpleasant man was barking at the wait staff before storming out)
This is the last time I go to this particular restaurant as my money is clearly heated with value other locations. -

I don't know what happened to this location but wow today was bad.
Quick summary:
Cold bun
Frozen butter
Dry ribs
Horrible waitress
Wrong order
I usually really enjoy swiss chalet. I would say avoid going in the daytime because the server we had was horrendous. I asked for a poutine and it was not brought out but I was almost charged for it. My bun was just cold and the butter was a frozen cube. The ribs were not even chewable. The server never even checked up on us until the end, never smiled, and never offered to refill my drink. I would rate this experience lower than one star if I could.
Extremely disappointed and will not be going back. -

Arrived at 6:25, left at 7:20 with no food and only a "we have problems in the kitchen" when we asked where our food was at 7:00pm. We were told then it would only be another couple of minutes. We gave up and went for fast food. Everyone in the restaurant was in the same situation. We got a "sorry" on the way out. Will be a while before I go back to Swiss chalet.

Well it's the last time 4 my wife and I 2 frequent swiss chalet, we have had nothing but hard luck every time we frequent their establishment, no matter which one we go 2, not long ago we visited the one on beaverbrook and wonderland area, we had some place 2 b around a certain time, so we both decided on a early supper, we were there for 5p.m. and both ordered our meals, no liquor, just a pop 4 my wife and water 4 myself...
about 15 minutes after we were seated, well the restaurant started 2 fill up, and we noticed that couples who were seated near us that arrived after we did were being served their meals and were sitting there twiddling our thumbs, I got so frustrated I got up and flagged down a server, and asked for the manager, which promptly arrived at our table, and told her our situation, and said if we didn't receive our order in the next few minutes we were picking ourselves up and leaving... our meals came promptly, and with the explanation that they were very busy, which did not cut it 4 me, overall a disappointing dining experience, since then weve been 2 fanshawe location a few times, 1st time a good dining experience, the next 2 times not so good, our food arrived cold, and the server sais 2 us, I don't understand how they were both sitting on the heating rack, almost reluctantly taking them back, I was pissed 2 say the least, next visit we ae seated promptly right across from a parent with his noisy kids, who doesn't realize or care that he's in a restaurant, we call a server over and ask her 2 change our seating arrangement, which she does, but heres where the fun starts, we are waiting a long time 2 place our order, and after that an even longer time 2 receive our order, and finally when it does arrive no surprise it's cold, have 2 go thru a song and dance 2 get our meals 2 us hot, just recently visited wonderland and southdale location 4 an early supper, go in restaurant looking around 4 anyone 2 show us 2 a table, I practically had 2 beg 2 b seated, finally showed 2 a table, we both kwew what we wanted and ordered promptly, we had a complementary oder of perogies, which arrived promptly, which my wife and I did not enjoy, and did not bother finishing after just one taste, I make better at home, so we waited 4 our main order 2 arrive, and just like once previously, people who were seated after us, were being served their meals before us, we waited quite a while, finally our meals arrive and my wife has 2 ask 4 her pop a second time, when the server comes back I tell her my rice that I ordered with the meal, is overcooked askedif she could bring me fry instead, which she complies promptly, brings me back fries that are cooked 2 a crisp, looked like the end of a batch, I did not complain, but my wife sais 2 the server if she can heat up her hot chicken sandwich in the microwave 4 a minute, its cold, she takes the meal away and in a minute or 2 later, she returns with a completely new meal 4 my wife, the server while very obliging and polite, was a little 2 friendly 2 patrons, talkng 2 much 2 patrons while others are waiting 4 their meals... All things considered, I know we won't be going back 2 S C in the near future, I personally believe that 4 whatever reasoning they have cut back not only on the quality of their product, but service as well.. it's a shame, I guess we'll be eating Portuguese.
